Welcome to the online home of the groundbreaking Sri Lankan group Pahan Silu.

In an age of rapid globalization, many artists on the Indian Ocean island of Sri Lanka have turned to European and North American artists for cultural and creative influence.  Moving against this tide; Pahan Silu has received international renown for being the first group of musicians of their generation who have pioneered a style of uniquely Sri Lankan music. Recognized by their trademark unplugged sound, Pahan Silu has blended traditional Sri Lankan poetry (kavi) with African and Latin rhythms to produce a sound that is uniquely theirs.

In addition to their musical voice, however, Pahan Silu has also confounded many of Sri Lanka's record label executives by writing, arranging, producing, manufacturing, and distributing their music independently - via their private production/distribution companies Pahan Silu Enterprises (Sri Lanka), and Candlelight Distributions (USA).

Headquartered in the United States, Pahan Silu began modestly - performing for small audiences throughout the mid-western United States.  Within three years of their inception, however, its members had begun performing for audiences as far away as Washington DC, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles and San Diego - and alongside artists including Walter Fernando and Sanath Nandasiri.
