In
this age of rapid globalization, many artists on the
Indian Ocean island of Sri Lanka have turned to European
and North American artists for cultural and creative
influence. Moving against this tide; Pahan Silu
has received international recognition for being the
first artists of their generation to have pioneered a
style of uniquely Sri Lankan music. Recognized by
their trademark unplugged sound, Pahan Silu has
masterfully blended traditional Sri Lankan poetry (kavi)
and meter with African and Latin rhythms to produce a
style that is uniquely theirs.
